S.M.MUZUMDAR

M/s S.M. Muzumdar was founded in 1936 by Shri S.M. Muzumdar, a gifted and talented structural engineer, fondly known by all as “Anna.”  Born in 1912, Shri S.M.Muzumdar did his schooling in Karachi (then in India) and Mumbai and went on to complete his Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Pune. He established the firm in 1936 in South Mumbai. He started out with small projects but soon his talent and hard work paid off and the firm of S.M. Muzumdar started getting bigger and complex industrial as well as residential projects.  He worked with various industrial clients like Bajaj Auto, Bajaj Tempo (now Force Motors) and Garware Nylons.

Our current Advisor, Mr. A. D. Savardekar, joined the firm of S.M. Muzumdar in 1965 as an associate designer.  He brought with him experience in structural design from Germany and Switzerland, having worked there for 6 years.  Mr. Savardekar remembers Mr. S.M.Muzumdar fondly, “He was a fatherly figure to me and taught me the science and art of Engineering. He stressed on the importance of taking into account many practical aspects of engineering practices in India. After working with him for 11 years, I took over his practice as he wished to retire.”  Mr. S.M.Muzumdar retired in 1976 having had a distinguished career.  He left behind a rich legacy of large scale industrial as well as residential projects.

The baton of the firm was then taken up by Mr. A. D. Savardekar.  During the last 5 decades, he has led from the front helping M/s. S.M. Muzumdar become one of the most respected Structural Design firms in India. Under Mr. Savardekar’s guidance, the firm has gone from strength to strength by adopting and embracing the latest technologies but at the same time keeping its core values of design intact.  Mr. Savardekar worked on various large scale industrial projects for companies such as Bajaj Auto, Zenith Steel, Century Enka, etc.
The Company still retains Mr. S.M.Muzumdar’s name as a mark of respect to him.
